Linking etiquette

Due to the rapid changes that come with Early Access, I expect cooking recipes to change over time as well. This infographic will be updated to reflect that, but I can’t guarantee it will have the same filename. So please link to this post instead of hotlinking the image file if you want the person clicking the link to see the most current version.

Local Chat

Patch 183.0 added a new chat-variant. Called “Local-Chat” it allows you to chat with everyone in the proximity, but excludes the rest of the server. That could for example be useful for people who end up having to ask for help, but don’t want to advertise their precarious situation to everyone on the server.

You can access it with the “Insert”-key. That will change the “Global”-Label left of the chat input to “Local”. Local Chat is distinguished by the suffix “(LOCAL)” in the chat-window.

ARK: Survival Evolved Patch 183.1 – Patchnotes

These are the changes of ARK: Survival Evolved’s Patch 183.1, grouped into categories for clarity. If not otherwise indicated, they’re quoted from the relevant Steam Thread.

Emotes

Since Patch 183.0 you can gesticulate as much as you want thanks to the new emote menu. You can reach it by pressing the “T”-key (the key assigned to the Dino-Whistle). In that menu, you’ll now find the option “Play Emote” at eleven hours.

There are also two new hotkey options in the option menu: “Emote-Key 1” and “Emote-Key 2”.

These are the changes of ARK: Survival Evolved’s Patch 183.0, grouped into categories for clarity. If not otherwise indicated, they’re quoted from the relevant Steam Thread.

Official Servers

  • New Primitive-Only Official Servers! Only stuff available that you might actually find in caveman-era tech, for role-playing fun. PvP, PvE, and PvP Hardcore in North America, EU, and OC. If players like this and the servers get crowded, we can add more 🙂

New Items / New Structures

  • Added “Independence Fireworks” Skin for Flare Gun. Find it dropped from a variety of high-level dinos, and skin your Flares with this, to light up the night sky with a blazing fireworks display. Will only drop this weekend, so better stock up!

Dino Changes

  • Fixed Ichthyosaurus losing taming affinity too fast and not being feedable quickly enough
  • Dinos can no longer push you through structures 😉

Game Changes

  • Server Admins can now explicitly remove items from the Supply Crate drops, to facilitate these primitive servers (a little later will expose the full loot tables for editing). We’ll be providing the INI’s used to setup these servers so that players can easily host their own Primitive-Era servers as they may wish.
  • Mod makers can now override the minimap and spawn regions
  • Made high level supply crates more likely to give high-level items
  • Improved visual look/materials of Stone Structures

UI Changes

  • Emote Wheel! 10 emotes for now Male and Female, along with two Emote Hotkey bindings.
  • Added key for “Proximity Text Chat”, to say something in text chat only within a short audible range (has a unique text chat color)

Bugfixes

  • Fixed a server-side crash
  • Fixed case of clients unable to spawn in the online game / getting booted. Temporary solution before v183 until this new version is to TOTALLY delete your game directory and redownload the game (the issue is due to having some extra old map files in your Maps dir that need to be cleared out). v183 will ignore these however. Mega props to Steam User “crua9” for helping us to track this down!
  • Fixed some collision gaps in stone tier (dinos could hit thru them, etc)
  • Fixed a case where you could unprone into people’s bases.
  • Fixed issue where swimming dinos were attempting to beach themselves to eat corpses 😛
  • Made dinos able to properly damage structures again, in many cases a trace check was failing causing them to not do damage
  • Hopeful fix for dinos appearing through floors when re-entering a zone or reloading a server
  • Likely fix for case where Tribe data could be lost when reloading a server
  • Fixed a case where “Take All From Inventory” could lose items if it would make your own Inventory greater than 2x overweight. Now it’ll stop if it reaches that.

Performance

  • Improved server perf Phase 1

Dino Dossier: Dimetrodon

As is the custom on Fridays, a new Dinosaur has been announced. It’s called “Dimetrodon” and is easily identified by its sail. Its purpose: Air Conditioning.

Common Name: Dimetrodon
Species: Dimetrodon calorector
Time: Early Permian
Diet: Carnivore
Temperament: Reactive
Domestication
Tameable: Yes
Rideable: No
  • Wild: Dimetrodon Calorector is a much calmer predator than most on the island. Because it lives off smaller prey than humans, it generally ignores anything much larger than a Coelacanth. Dimetrodon is one of the few carnivores on the island that could be classified as reasonably friendly in the wild.
  • Domesticated: If Dimetrodon was a bit larger, or didn't have that massive sail, it would make a decent mount. However, its main use to survivors is to utilize the sail's insulating capabilities. Just being near a Dimetrodon gives excellent protection from the heat and the cold, which has saved my life through more than one ice blizzard in the frozen mountains!
  • Known Information: The sail on Dimetrodon's back is a fascinating thing. It can be angled to provide shade from the sun, and allows Dimetrodon to disperse heat more quickly. The inner workings of the sail can also restrict blood flow in the creature to hold in excessive heat. Together, these two traits allow Dimetrodon to comfortably survive in any climate, though they are most commonly found in the swamplands which are rich in prey.

Item and NPC List Update – new Cheats

We’ve updated the item and npc lists right now. Now everyone can play around with the newest items and monsters of the last recent updates. But never forget: cheating will massively reduce the fun of the game. 😉

Thanks to Madman, who has sent us the new IDs in our forum.

Dino Dossier: Pachycephalosaurus aka Pachy

Today the developers announced the Pachycephalosaurus. Here's to hoping that it won't be as hard to tame as it is to pronounce! The Pachy will be a Herbivore with an interesting temprament. To be precise, the dossier suggests that it will "become extremely aggressive once attacked" even though it's normally relatively amiable.

Common Name: Pachy
Species: Pachycephalosaurus leniproelia
Time: Late Cretaceous
Diet: Herbivore
Temperament: Passive
Domestication
Tameable: Yes
Rideable: Yes
Saddle: Pachy Saddle
  • Wild: Pachycephalosaurus is a bit of a conundrum. It is a very passive (even friendly) herbivore, common to much of the island. At the same time, it is one of the most dangerous herbivores that I have yet encountered on the island. Its charging headbutt is a display of sheer physical power, and can kill much more quickly than you might think.
  • Domesticated: Pachycephalosaurus is an excellent battle-mount for those who want to ride a smaller, nimble combatant into the fray. Because of its particular musculature, it cannot effectively carry large quantities of resources. It can, however, move with brief magnificent bursts of speed, and its headbutt is simply devastating.
  • Known Information: While Pachycephalosaurus is generally amiable, it has a short temper. Its fight-or-flight response always seems to choose "fight"! The Pachy becomes extremely aggressive once attacked. Additionally, it is an incredibly fast sprinter, so escaping from an enraged Pachy is very difficult.
